WESTFIELD, Mass. - Senior forward
A.J. Shiverdecker (Kettering, ON) netted the game-winner 3:36 into overtime as the Westfield State men's hockey team defeated Western New England 4-3 in a non-league game Tuesday evening (Jan. 24) at the Amelia Park Ice Arena.
Shiverdecker finished with two goals and an assist as the Owls improved to 4-10-3.
Westfield State took a 2-0 lead in the opening period on goals by senior forward
Pat Nelson (Cary, NC) at 4:13 and a power play score by Shiverdecker at the 8:09 mark.
The Golden Bears (9-8) got on the board when sophomore defenseman
Rance Vukovic (Lansdale, PA) scored at 19:24 of the second period with an assist from sophomore forward
Alan Martin (Monson, MA).
Western New England senior forward
Kory Grahl (San Diego, CA) tied the contest with a power play goal at 16:48 of the third stanza. Freshman forward
Brandon Stroud (Clarksville, IN) had the assist.
That set the stage for a frantic final minute that started when sophomore forward
Vince Perreault (Braeside, OH) gave the hosts a 3-2 advantage by scoring at 19:17. WNE tied the game 19 seconds later on an unassisted goal by sophomore forward
Trent Krueger (White Bear Lake, MN).

Ian Wilson (Tulsa, OK) compiled 38 saves (19 in the second period) for the Owls while junior
T.J. Fatse (Hampden, MA) stopepd 31 shots for the Golden Bears.
Western New England had a 41-39 advantage in shots, but managed only one in the extra session while WSU had seven.
