DUDLEY, Mass. – Sophomore forward
Ryan Sheehan (North Attleboro, MA) led four players in double figures with 19 points as Nichols defeated Western New England 77-69 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon (Jan. 28).
The Bison, who have won three straight and six of their last eight contests, are now 8-10 and 6-5 in the conference. The Golden Bears drop to 6-11 and 3-8 in CCC play.
Freshman guard
Matt Langadas (Casco, ME) added 16 points while sophomore guard Sa
m Horning (Falmouth, ME) and freshman guard
Marlon Bennett (Stratford, CT) came off the bench to add 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Nichols started strong taking a 47-24 advantage at halftime.
Western New England used a 15-3 run at the beginning of the second half to get within 50-39 following a layup by sophomore forward
Dennis Rinaldi (Harrison, NY) with 14:33 to play.
The Bison answered with an 18-8 run to take a 68-47 lead after freshman guard
Jalen Graham (Ansonia, CT) made a layup with 7:57 remaining.
The Golden Bears mounted a terrific comeback chopping the lead to six (70-64) when sophomore guard
Ryan Mickiewicz (East Longmeadow, MA) hit a jumper with 1:36 to play. Sheehan drained a three-pointer for a nine-point advantage and the hosts made four free throws in the final 42 seconds for the win.
Junior guard
Damon Alston (New Britain, CT) led Western New England with 15 points. Mickiewicz added 14 points while senior guard
Andre Shaw (New York, NY) contributed 13 points, including the 1,000th of his career. Shaw also dished out six assists.
Freshman forward
Musa Elsir (Springfield, MA) netted nine points and pulled down six rebounds as did Rinaldi and sophomore forward
Daniel Minto (West Hempstead, NY).
