BOSTON--Maureen Pollet led the team with 12 kills and
Devyn Frank connected for 10 as Western New England University turned back Wentworth 25-19, 30-28, 25-16 in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's volleyball play on Tuesday. The Golden Bears improve to 13-2 overall, including 3-1 in the league, while the Leopards sink to 7-8 and 2-2.
In addition to Pollet and Frank,
Carolyn Hajdusek contributed eight kills on 16 attempts against just one attack error. Frank had just two errors on 24 swings, as the Golden Bears hit a solid .213 with 42 kills and 15 errors on 127 total attacks. Setter
Heather Mears posted 36 assists to direct the offense.
Defensively, Frank added six blocks and 10 digs, Mears dug 10 balls and
Grace Kucharski had a team-high 17 digs.
"We came out strong knowing every conference match is important and we are excited to move to 3-1 (in the CCC)," Western New England coach Bret Stothart said after the match. "After the first set they made some nice adjustments and unfortunately we tightened up a bit late in the second set. We were able to regroup in time to pull it out and we carried that momentum into the third set and played well to close out the match."
