BRISTOL, R.I.--No. 4 seed Western New England University couldn't overcome a poor hitting night during a 25-17, 25-20, 25-23 loss at top-seeded Roger Williams University in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament Semifinals on Thursday at the Campus Rec Center. The Golden Bears fall to 22-7 overall and will await word on hopefully selection to either the NCAA Division III or Eastern College Athletic Conference New England championships. RWU (18-10), meanwhile, will have a chance to win its fourth straight CCC crown on Saturday.
Western New England finished the match attacking at a .092 clip while Roger Williams hit .283. The Golden Bears fell behind early 11-4 en route to hitting just .053 in the first set, when the Hawks countered with a .279.
Tyler Singh led WNE with six kills and a .400 attack percentage, and
Kasey Cameron also had six putdowns.
Heather Mears had 19 assists and nine digs.
Roger Williams had a three-pronged attack in Elizabeth Flaherty with 14 kills (.700), Kelsey Twarog with 11 (.207) and Abby Cunningham, 10 (.421). Nicole Weber added 35 assists.
The Hawks, who avenged a regular-season loss to Western New England on Senior Night, put the match away with a 16-kill, 1-error, .484-percentage performance in the third set.
Defensively,
Grace Kucharski led the Golden Bears with 13 digs while Kelsee Loche had 18 for the other side.
