No. 5-Ranked Amherst Too Much for Golden Bears, 104-61

Box Score AMHERST, Mass.--Five Jeffs scored in double-figures as the nationally No. 5-ranked Amherst men's basketball team cruised to a 104-61 non-conference victory Tuesday over Western New England at LeFrak Gymnasium. The Jeffs improve to 3-0 on the season while the Golden Bears drop to 0-3.

Freshman Garey Allen came off the Western New England bench to score a team-high nine points, while fellow first-year DeWayne Wynn and junior Kevin Wilkes added eight apiece.

Amherst got balanced scoring from its starters led by Willy Workman with a game-high 18 points, followed by Allen Williamson and Peter Kaasila with 14 apiece and Tom Killian, 13. Connor Green came off the bench to score 16 points in 12 minutes of action, and starter Aaron Toomey had just two points but he had six rebounds and dished six assists.

Wilkes added seven rebounds for the Golden Bears, who struggled on the wrong end of a 56-27 rebounding disadvantage.

Western New England shot a season-best 37.1 percent, but Amherst was a solid 53.7 percent from the field.

Amherst raced to a 30-9 lead over the first nine minutes en route to a 59-32 cushion at halftime.
