Western New England suffers 7-2 loss to Division II Augustana (SD) in spring opener

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Western New England men's tennis team opened its spring break trip to Florida with a 7-2 loss against Division II Augustana (SD) Saturday evening (Mar. 17) at the Lake Cane Tennis Center.

The Golden Bears captured two singles with freshman Peter LeFrancios (Marlborough, MA) taking a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 5 singles and sophomore Tyler Unwin (Pittsfield, VT) posting a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 victory at No. 6 singles.

The Vikings opened the match winning all three doubles matches.

Senior Jared Drenkow (Sioux Falls, SD) and junior Mitchell Barr (Sioux Falls, SD) posted an 8-3 in at the top doubles position. Drenkow (6-0, 6-3) and Barr (6-0, 6-0) then won their No. 1 and No. 2 singles marches, respectively.

Augsutana, which was also playing its first match in Florida, is now 4-2.

Western New England (0-2) will meet North Central (IL) at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (Mar. 18) at the Lake Cane courts.
