CLERMONT, Fla. – The Western New England softball team had a rough day on the diamond dropping a 10-0 decision to Allegheny (PA) and 10-1 contest to Bowdoin Sunday (Mar. 18) at the National Training Complex.

Both games were called after five innings because of the mercy rule.

The Golden Bears managed only eight hits in the two outings in falling to 1-3.

Senior catcher Rachel Wyrwa (Methuen, MA) had two of the team's three hits in the opener.

Allegheny, who remained unbeaten at 7-0, scored four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Senior outfielder Haela Hayden (Pittsburgh, PA) had a single, triple, run scored, and three RBI for the Gators.

Freshman pitcher Caitlin Nealer (New Kensington, PA) struck out six and didn't walk a batter in posting the shutout.

Sophomore Maria Francese (Hinsdale, MA) took the loss.

Francese came back for a three-for-three performance in the second game against the Polar Bears.

Bowdoin scored three times in the first, second, and fourth innings in raising their record to 6-1.

Sophomore Melissa DellaTorre (Scarborough, ME) fanned five and walked one in picking up the win.

Senior Sarah Lempicki (Plantsville, CT) was the losing pitcher.
