SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England men's tennis team kept its home playoff hopes alive with a 6-3 victory over Gordon Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 17).
With three matches remaining in the regular season, the Golden Bears are 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Fighting Scots drop to 1-13 and 0-5 in the conference.
Senior
Shawn Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, NY) won two key points after capturing his number three singles match with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory. He and freshman
John Mindek (Willington, CT) took an 8-3 decision at number two doubles.
WNE junior
Chris Holzinger (Foster, RI) had an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win at number one singles. Freshman
Greg Tischofer (Portland, CT) compiled a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 verdict at number four singles. Sophomore
Tyler Unwin (Pittsfield, VT) was a 7-5, 6-2 winner six singles.
Also in doubles play, senior
JonPaul Ouellette (Bethlehem, CT) and freshman
Peter Nassar (Longmeadow, MA) posted an 8-0 at the third flight.

Gary Gaudio (Miller Place, NY) and his brother sophomore
Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, NY) held on for a 9-8 (7-4) win at the top doubles position. Kenny also took a 6-0, 6-2 decision at number two singles while senior
Mike Muthgersbaugh (Troy, NY) had a 6-3, 6-3 win at number five singles.
