Western New England defeats city rival AIC 8-1 to gain its first victory of the season

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England men's tennis team gained its first victory of the season with an 8-1 decision over city rival AIC Monday afternoon (Apr. 2).

Junior Chris Holzinger (Foster, RI) and freshman Peter Lefrancois (Marlborough, MA) captured the top doubles flight with an 8-6 victory.

Freshmen John Mindek (Willington, CT) and Peter Nasser (Longmeadow, MA) took the number two doubles event by the score of 8-2.

In singles action, senior Shawn Fitzpatrick (Burnt Hills, NY) rallied for a 0-6, 6-2, 10-7 win at the number two flight.

Freshman Greg Tiscoher (Portland, CT) (6-2, 6-3) and sophomore Tyler Unwin (Pittsfield, VT) (6-0, 6-0) captured the number three and four singles matches, respectively, in straight sets.

AIC's lone win came at the top singles position where freshman James Worrell (Epsom, England) posted a 6-1, 6-0 win.

The Yellow Jackets (0-6) forfeited the other three matches.

Western New England now has a 1-4 record.
