DUDLEY, Mass. – The Western New England softball team saw its four-game win streak ended after dropping a doubleheader to Nichols by the scores of 4-2 and 9-5 Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 4).
The Golden Bears are now 7-9 and 2-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) while the Bison improve its records to 9-11 and 4-6 in conference play.
Game 1 – Nichols 4, Western New England 2
The Golden Bears scored twice in the seventh on an unearned run and run-scoring single by senior catcher
Rachel Wyrwa (Methuen, MA) and had the tying run at the plate, but couldn't cut the deficit. Wyrwa finished with two hits along with freshman right fielder
Jocelyn Agnelli (Winchendon, MA). Senior
Sarah Lempicki (Plantsville, CT) took the loss after allowing eight hits and four runs (two earned) with no walks and nine strikeouts.
Senior third base player
Kylie Langton (Medford, MA) knocked in two runs with a single in the third and also doubled. Senior second base player
Savannah Thibault (Marlborough, MA) also contributed two hits. Senior pitcher
Molly Ferraro (Millis, MA) had a complete game win giving up six hits with a pair of walks and three strikeouts.
Game 2 – Nichols 9, Western New England 5
Senior catcher
Chelsea Correia (Seekonk, MA) led the 12-hit attack with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs scored. Four other players also had two hits. Ferraro gained her sixth win of the season with relief help from sophomore
Rebecca Waszczuk (Chester, NH).
Sophomore third base player
Katie Eckert (Lee, MA) had three of the Golden Bears' six hits, includi9ng a double and two RBI. Lempicki, who was the designated player, singled twice with a run scored and RBI. Senior
Alyssa Obin (Plymouth, MA) took the loss.
Nichols led 5-0 after three innings before WNE tacked on three runs in the fourth with a run-scoring double by Eckert the key hit. The Bison out the game away with four runs in the sixth
