Pollet Powers Women's Volleyball Past UNE in CCC Opener

BIDDEFORD, Maine --Junior Maureen Pollet spiked a match-best 21 kills and hit .312, while sophomore Grace Kucharski dug 26 balls, to help the visiting Western New England University women's volleyball team to a 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19 win Saturday at the University of New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both squads at the Harold Alfond Forum. The Golden Bears improve to 8-1 overall while the Nor'easters dip to 5-3.

Senior Heather Mears tallied 40 assists in the match, helping sophomore Kasey Cameron record eight kills in support for WNE. Junior Tyler Singh was either solely responsible or involved with all seven of her team's blocks.

For Big Blue, senior Paige Curran led the way with 18 kills, as junior Angie Brunette and sophomore Leah Janelle contributed 15 and 13 more, respectively. Junior Maria Kuehl put up 46 assists to go with a team-high 13 digs, while senior Jackie Stone and junior Kirsta Adie added 11 digs apiece.

Western New England seized control of the match by streaking to a 5-0 lead in the fourth set to never look back.
