BEVERLY, Mass.--The Western New England University women's tennis team opened the 2012 fall season with a 9-0 loss at the hands of host Endicott in Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday. The Gulls improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the CCC.
"This result was not what we were hoping for. (But) the determination and never-give-up attitudes displayed (by our team) were great indicators for the next steps of our season," Golden Bears coach Jennifer Kolins said after the match. "We have a young team packed with positive attitude and they are willing to work hard to compete hard this fall. Co-captain
Linda Mustafa led the way, at the helm of both singles and doubles, and the players are ready and excited for a three-day stint of matches early next week."
Mustafa won a game in No. 1 singles and paired with
Kelsey Grode in top doubles to take another game.
Lindsay Brudvig and
Gillian Adams won two games in Nos. 4 and 6 singles, respectively.
Western New England will host Sage College at 4 p.m. Monday in a make-up of the Golden Bears home opener that was originally scheduled for last Tuesday. This marks the first of a five-match homestand for WNE.
