The Golden Bears cut the deficit in half with a shorthanded, unassisted goal off the stick of junior Alan Martin with 11 seconds remaining in the first period.

But Tim Sprague restored the Rams' two-goal lead with his 11th of the season at the 14:05 mark of the second period.

Western New England sophomore Tim Carr made 34 saves while his goaltending counterpart Brandon Smolarek stopped 31 shots.

The teams skated to a scoreless third period in which Western New England used an extra attacker after pulling Carr for the final 1:47. But, the Golden Bears couldn't get a second goal to make things interesting.
