BOSTON--First-place Western New England resumed its Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast men's hockey schedule on Saturday, but the Golden Bears suffered a 3-1 upset at the hands of host Suffolk at Steriti Rink, North End. Western New England falls to 6-10 overall, including 4-2 in the ECAC Northeast, while the Rams improve to 6-7-3 and 3-2-1 in the league.
Suffolk struck early with two goals by Charlie McGinnis and Tim Benedetto in the first 2 minutes and 19 seconds of the contest, putting Western New England on its heels.
The Golden Bears cut the deficit in half with a shorthanded, unassisted goal off the stick of junior
Alan Martin with 11 seconds remaining in the first period.
But Tim Sprague restored the Rams' two-goal lead with his 11th of the season at the 14:05 mark of the second period.

Tim Carr made 34 saves while his goaltending counterpart Brandon Smolarek stopped 31 shots.
The teams skated to a scoreless third period in which Western New England used an extra attacker after pulling Carr for the final 1:47. But, the Golden Bears couldn't get a second goal to make things interesting.
