Box Score Boxscore

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Lucas Sousa registered two assists to lead Salve Regina to a 4-1 victory over host Western New England on Saturday evening in a battle of first-place men's hockey teams in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast at Smead Rink. The Seahawks improve to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the ECAC Northeast while WNE dips to 4-3 on the season and 3-2 in the conference standings. (Johnson & Wales lost at home to Nichols, 3-1, to give the Seahawks sole possession of first place in the ECAC NE).

Junior Tim Carr stopped 35 of 39 Salve shots to help keep the Golden Bears within striking distance. Salve's Jake Williams made 27 saves to improve to 5-1.

Senior Dan Monahan scored WNE's lone goal on a nice individual effort to tie it 1-1 at the 7:11 mark of the first period. Monahan took a center-ice feed from classmate Alan Martin from his defensive zone and then skated in on Williams while sandwiched between two Seahawks defenders, flipping the puck one-handed over the goalie's right shoulder from inside the two face-off dots.

The Seahawks, however, got the go-ahead tally from Cameron Gaudet with 5 minutes and 11 seconds left in the opening stanza. Including Trace Redmond's goal to get the offense going, Salve led 2-1 after 20 minutes.

Nine different Seahawks notched at least one point including insurance goals by Jonathan Felteau at 2:49 of the second and Peter Gintoli at 16:55 of the third.

Western New England's vaunted power-play--28.6 percent coming into tonight--had trouble getting on track, going 0-for-8. Salve, meanwhile, was able to score two goals in six extra-man advantages.

The Golden Bears will host ECAC West opponent Manhattanville at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday before taking a Thanksgiving break.
