AUBURN, Mass.--Host Worcester State scored two goals late in the game to pull out a 3-1 non-conference win Tuesday evening over Western New England in men's hockey action at Horgan Rink. The Lancers improve to 3-0 on the season while the Golden Bears fall even to 1-1 after their first true road game.

Brandon Stroud tied the game 1-1 for WNE with his first goal of the season at the 15:58 mark of the second period.
Dan Monahan and
Alan Martin were credited with assists on the scoring play.
But Vinny Bohn potted his first goal with 2 minutes and 51 seconds left in the contest, and Derek Serbon added an empty-net tally from Bohn with 35 seconds remaining to seal the triumph.
Western New England outshot the Lancers 35-32 but was unable to capitalize on the man-advantage as it went 0-for-8 while WSU wasn't much better at 1-for-6.
Alex Dewitz gave the Lancers a 1-0 lead near the midpoint of the opening stanza.
Worcester goalie Salvatore Tecci made 34 saves while reigning Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast Goalie of the Week
Eric Sorenson stopped 29 shots.
Western New England returns to the ice for its official home opener at Smead Rink at Blunt Park on Saturday, Nov. 9, versus ECAC Northeast foe Becker at 4:40 p.m. That date is also Western Mass. Youth Hockey Day sponsored by Gateway Hardware Hockey, which will give the first 100 kids in attendance a free Golden Bears T-shirt.
