Softball Swept in Split Doubleheader on Day Two at National Training Center

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla.--The Western New England University softball team lost both ends of a split doubleheader during the second day of its stint at the National Training Center to begin 2013, falling to 1-3 on the season. The Golden Bears lost a 5-4 heartbreaker to Ramapo College in eight innings and then were dealt a 5-0 shutout at the hands of Wellesley College.

In the first game, junior Maria Francese and sophomore Samantha Mulhern both went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run batted in. Mulhern had a triple and sophomore Grace Kucharski connected for a double.

Ramapo, which outhit WNE by a slim 10 to 9 margin, scored the game-winning run in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly.

In the second contest, Francese had two of the Golden Bears four hits, including a triple. Kucharski and senior co-captain Jeana Longo also posted singles for the other two hits.
