SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Visiting Endicott College took a 6-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference men's tennis victory Saturday from Western New England University at the Volvo Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Gulls improve to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the CCC, while the Golden Bears drop to 5-8 on the season and 2-3 in the league.
Alexander Sause paved the way for the Golden Bears with victories at No. 2 doubles and No. 2 singles. In doubles, Sause paired with fellow freshman
Andres Otero for a 9-8 triumph, winning the tiebreaker 7 to 4. Sause won his singles match coming from behind, losing the first set 6-2 before taking a second-set tiebreaker 7-4 and 6-3 in the third.
Western New England also took a point at No. 1 singles behind senior captain
Chris Holzinger (6-3, 6-4).
"We competed at a very high level today, and left the match with specific areas of focus for the upcoming matches," Western New England coach Jennifer Kolins stated. "Today was our 'Play for a Cause' event in memory of Mr. Bob Palmer, Ms. Laura Carr and Ms. Saynte--all who have passed away because of ALS. We honored them prior to the match with a moment of silence, and played the match with their positive energy in our hearts."
