Box Score EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I.--Western New England completed a long day of men's tennis action--about 5-and-a-half hours from start to finish--by cruising past Salve Regina, 8-1, in the Seahawks' home finale, as rain forced the teams' match from an outdoor site in Newport to an indoor venue here. The Golden Bears have won four consecutive road matches to improve to 7-8 overall and 4-3 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, while SRU drops to 1-13 and 0-7 in the CCC.

"I am very proud of how our players adapted to the conditions and were able to adjust both mentally and physically. We had two rain delays that ultimately forced us to move to another venue indoors," Western New England coach Jennifer Kolins said. "Everyone played very well and it was exciting to end the day securing a spot in the (conference) playoffs.

"Nine out of our 12 players are first- or second-year members of the team. I couldn't be more proud of the buy-in from them and the leadership of our upperclassmen. Their focus and hard work has kept this team moving in the right direction every day," she said.

Western New England swept three doubles matches to go into the singles round up 3-0. Freshmen Andres Otero and Alexander Sause were both double winners as they took an 8-0 No. 2 doubles triumph and Sause won at No. 2 singles in straight sets and Otero followed suit at No. 3.

Graduate student Shawn Fitzpatrick also earned two points at No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles with sophomore Peter Nassar.
