PAWTUCKET, R.I.--Host Johnson & Wales scored two goals in each period en route to a 6-1 victory over Western New England in Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast men's hockey action on Saturday evening at Lynch Arena/BVSC. The Wildcats, who are receiving votes in both national polls for Division III, improve to 14-3 overall and 4-2 in the ECAC Northeast, while the Golden Bears fall to 9-8 on the season and 3-3 in the conference.
Senior 
Chris Connors netted the Golden Bears' lone goal in the first period that cut into the J&W lead to 2-1. Classmate 
Cam Napolitan earned his third assist on Connors' third goal of the season.
Cody Sarmiento led J&W with two goals and an assist, and Josh Obregon also recorded three points.
Obregon gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead just 2 minutes and 11 seconds in with his 15th goal, shorthanded, after WNE went on the power play a minute after the opening face-off.
Johnson & Wales went up 2-0 on freshman Fran Mackin's first career tally at the 12:24 mark of the first period.
Both teams went scoreless on nine power-play opportunities combined. Johnson & Wales dominated with 43 shots on goal to 21 for WNE.
Senior 
Eric Sorenson made 37 saves in the WNE goal, including stopping 13 of 15 shots to keep the Golden Bears within 2-1 at the end of the first stanza.
Western New England hits the ice again on Thursday and Saturday versus conference rivals Nichols and Curry, respectively, at home at Smead Rink.
