Kevin Wilkes equaled his career high with a game-best 16 points on Tuesday, but visiting Gordon came away with a 76-64 Commonwealth Coast Conference men's basketball victory at the Alumni Healthful Living Center. The Fighting Scots improve to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the CCC, while the Golden Bears dip to 2-8 and 0-4 in the conference.
Wilkes tied his personal best that he established during the 2011-12 season to lead four WNE scorers in double digits. Junior

Nick DeFeo scored 12.
Gordon was led by Alex Carnes's double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. Four other 'Scots scored in double digits including starters Hans Miersma, Park Thomas and Luke Hamilton with 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively, plus reserve Sam Johnson netted 11.
The teams traded baskets for most of the first half with neither side leading by more than three points. After Wilkes made a lay-in to put WNE up 17-15 with 8 minutes and 21 seconds to go, Miersma replied with a basket inside the paint on his team's next possession to ignite an 8-0 run over a 1:01 span. The Fighting Scots never trailed after reclaiming a 23-17 lead.
Gordon led at halftime 37 to 28.
Gordon pushed the lead to 14 points, 58-44, by the 8:26 mark of the second half. Western New England, however, didn't roll over and got within five at 58-53 after a pair of Wilkes free throws at 5:31 left on the clock. But the Fighting Scots quickly responded with a 10-1 run in 3 minutes to put the game out of reach for the Golden Bears.
Miermsa chipped in three blocked shots and seven rebounds, while Richie Armand dished five assists off the bench.
DeFeo finished with nine rebounds, three assists and three steals, and Rinaldi contributed four steals.
Western New England didn't help its cause by missing 11 free throws.
The Golden Bears will travel to Dudley where they will face Nichols in another conference match-up on Thursday.
