Samantha McCann scored all of her 13 points in the first half as Western New England got off to a quick start to earn a 66-42 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory in women's basketball action over Gordon on Tuesday at the Alumni Healthful Living Center. The Golden Bears won their second consecutive CCC home game to improve to 2-2 in the league and also evened their overall record to 5-5, while the Fighting Scots dip to 5-6 on the season and 1-3 in the CCC.
Brooke Kratche led Gordon with 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
McCann was very efficient early by scoring all of her points during 14 minutes of action in the first half, shooting 4 of 6 from the field and making all five of her free throw attempts.
The Golden Bears' defense did the rest, holding Gordon to 25 percent field goal shooting.
Western New England, which led wire-to-wire, held Gordon to just a made free throw for the first 9 minutes and 10 seconds. Skylar Bareford recorded the Fighting Scots first field goal before a
Samantha Battaini trey gave WNE a 17-3 cushion with 10:54 left in the first half.
The Fighting Scots didn't reach double-digits until a Mariel Barner layup at the 2:16 mark. Western New England led 29-11 at the time.

The Golden Bears also had a decided advantage on the glass, grabbing 44 rebounds to 32 for the Fighting Scots. Senior co-captain
Katie Eckert led all players with nine rebounds.
