SheetSPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Visiting Suffolk University used a two-goal third period to hand Western New England University a 3-1 defeat in Eastern College Athletic Conference Northeast men's hockey action at Smead Rink at Blunt Park on Saturday afternoon. The Rams improve to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in the ECAC Northeast while the Golden Bears fall to 1-3-1 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Senior newcomer
Malik Garvin scored his first career goal, unassisted, on his first shot in a Western New England uniform to give the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead at the 6:04 mark of the second period.
But Suffolk responded with three unanswered goals, beginning with Tim Sprague's second goal with 3 minutes and 5 seconds remaining in the second. Brett Lawson and Shaughn Shields sealed the win with unassisted tallies in the final stanza.
Senior goalie
Tim Carr kept WNE close with 37 saves as the Golden Bears were outshot 40 to 32. Brandon Smolarek had 31 stops for the Rams.
