Katie Eckert Nets Team-High 17 Points as Golden Bears Take 59-47 Road Win at Gordon

Box Score WENHAM, Mass.--Senior co-captain Katie Eckert had team highs 17 points and seven rebounds, plus a game-best four steals, to lead Western New England to a 59-47 victory Tuesday over host Gordon in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's basketball action at the Bennett Center. The Golden Bears snap a season-high four-game losing string to improve to 8-11 overall and 5-8 in the CCC, while the Fighting Scots drop to 5-15 on the season and 1-12 in the conference.

Graduate student Nicole Daly was the only other WNE player in double figures with 10 points. Sophomore Chelsea Vujs, an all-conference pick last season, returned to the Golden Bears lineup after missing the previous four contests with an injury and contributed nine points and three assists off the bench.

Brooke Kratche had game highs of 21 points and nine rebounds to lead Gordon, which shot 41.7 percent from the field (20-48). Teammates Skylar Bareford and Fredi Nielsen added 10 points each.

Western New England, which never trailed in the game, took the lead for good on a jumper by Eckert at 6-4 en route to a 39-30 halftime lead. The Golden Bears built as much as a 15-point bulge in the first half.

The Golden Bears' bench depth won the game by outscoring the Gordon reserves 18-6. In addition, WNE was aggressive driving to the basket that resulted in 14-of-19 free throws to 5-for-9 from the charity stripe for the Fighting Scots. The Golden Bears defense also recorded a season-high 14 steals that produced 17 points off 24 Gordon turnovers.

Western New England hits the court again at 1 p.m. Saturday versus visiting Nichols for Girls and Women in Sports Day at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
