KISSIMMEE, Fla.--Sophomore  Adam Zimmerman won the last match of the day at No. 5 singles to lift the Western New England University men's tennis team to a thrilling 5-4 non-conference win Monday over UMass-Boston at the Oak Street Community Park Courts. The Golden Bears improve to 2-2 on the season while the Beacons remain winless at 0-4.

Junior Peter LeFrancois earned two of WNE's five points with victories at No. 3 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Charles Lai and Mark Grinhaus were double winners for UMB. Lai defeated sophomore Andres Otero in a tough three-set No. 1 singles match, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, and then teamed up with Eglis Bizhoti for a slim 9-7 No. 1 doubles win over Otero and classmate Alexander Sause. Grinhaus was victorious over Unwin at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2, and partnered with Jack Wang for a No. 2 doubles triumph against senior co-captain Tyler Unwin/junior Greg Tischofer, 8-6. UMB took a 2-1 lead going into the singles round.

Western New England earned the comeback win by taking four of six singles matches. The teams traded the next four points to set the stage for the exciting final four sets. Sophomore Andrew Schnier turned back Brian Sou at No. 6, 6-1, 6-4, and then classmate Zimmerman made quick work of Lyle Analetto, 6-3, 6-0, as the Golden Bears overcame a 4-3 deficit.

The Golden Bears play a tough University of Puget Sound squad out of the Northwest Conference in their next outing on Tuesday (2 p.m.) here.
