KISSIMMEE, Fla.--Graduate student and team tri-captain Linda Mustafa earned two points to lead the Western New England University women's tennis team to a thrilling 5-4 non-conference win Monday over UMass-Boston at the Oak Street Community Park Courts. The Golden Bears improve to 5-9 overall after kicking off their non-traditional spring season, while the Beacons slip to 6-12.

Mustafa was victorious at No. 2 singles over Samantha Counts, 7-5, 6-2, and No. 2 doubles with senior tri-captain Kelsey Grode over Solveig Castelli/Vicky Woytowicz, 8-2.

The Beacons led 2-1 after doubles play, but the Golden Bears claimed four of six singles matches for the victory.

Trailing 3-2 in the match, WNE took the lead for good after singles victories by Mustafa, freshman Joeanna Glantz at No. 3 in a walkover, and senior Lindsey Brudvig at No. 4 in a three-setter.

Senior tri-captain Ashley Lauricella also won for the Golden Bears at No. 6 singles, defeating Kelsey Shea in straight sets.

Anitra Kloczewiak led the Beacons with two wins at Nos. 1 singles and doubles.

Western New England returns to the hardcourt at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday against junior college opponent Saint Petersburg College at the Treasure Bay Golf and Tennis Resort.
