MILTON, Mass.--The Western New England University men's tennis team evened its overall record to 4-4 after blanking host Curry College, 9-0, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match on Saturday.

The sophomore No. 1 doubles tandem of Alexander Sause and Andres Otero set the tone for the Golden Bears with an 8-4 win against Toma Blatchford and Valvel Temin. Sause earned a second point for WNE by winning in No. 1 singles over Blatchford, a three-set thriller at 6-3, 4-6, 10-3.

Junior Peter LeFrancois also was victorious in both doubles (#2) and singles (#2). He teamed up with classmate and co-captain PJ Nassar in an 8-1 doubles win over Joe Berger/Eric Helberg at 8-1. LeFrancois won a singles match with Valvel Temin in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.

"We had to make lineup adjustments moments before the match and every player showed the ability to adjust, and put into action the hard work they have put in since September," Western New England coach Jennifer Kolins stated. "After a sporadic week of practice due to the weather, I am very impressed with their performance and intensity today during our conference opener."

Like Sause and LeFrancois, John Mindek also was a double winner at No. 3 doubles (with junior Greg Tischofer), 8-0, and No. 5 singles. The junior shut out Evan Fishman, 6-0, 6-0, as he didn't drop a set this afternoon.

Western New England's next match will be on Tuesday (3 p.m.) against Wentworth Institute of Technology, making its home debut versus CCC competition at the Volvo Outdoor Tennis Courts.
