Box Score 2 SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--Senior tri-captain
Katie Eckert went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, and junior
Heather Fecteau added three hits, to help Western New England to a split of its Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader on Thursday at Golden Bear Softball Park, taking the second game over visiting Curry, 9-1 in five innings. The visiting Colonels shut out WNE 4-0 in the opener.
The Golden Bears now stand 13-15 overall and 9-7 in the CCC, while the Colonels settle at 21-13 and 11-5.
Eckert capped a four-run second inning with a RBI-groundout to third base.
In the decisive fifth inning of the nightcap, WNE scored five times on two hits, two errors and a pair of walks. Eckert had a two-run single to center to highlight the frame.
Curry scored its only run on a passed ball in the fourth inning. Megan Flaherty went 2-for-3 for the Colonels.
Western New England doubled up Curry in hits, 10-5. Junior
Samantha Mulhern chipped in two hits, two runs scored and a RBI for the Golden Bears.
Sophomore pitcher
Heidi Grieger picked up the win (4-6) after allowing an unearned run, a walk and scattering five hits. She also had four strikeouts.
In the opener, Taylor Ahearn (14-6) tossed a six-hit shutout over WNE, including five strikeouts.
Flaherty had two more hits and Kelly Duggan also had two for Curry, which had seven to WNE's six. Marissa Bruno scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning, as Curry added two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh.
