SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Western New England University men's tennis team saw its season-best four-match win streak snapped Monday at the hands of visiting Roger Williams University, 8-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at the Volvo Outdoor Courts. The host Golden Bears fall to 6-5 overall, while the Hawks improve to 6-3; both teams now stand 2-1 in the CCC standings.
Junior
Greg Tischofer picked up Western New England's lone point at No. 3 doubles, with classmate
John Mindek. The duo defeated Jonah Schwartz and Bull, 8-3.
Despite the fact that Roger Williams swept the six singles matches, three for WNE went to three sets or a tiebreak. At No. 1, sophomore
Andres Otero took the opening set 6-2 before Eric Laboissonniere won the next two 6-4, 6-1. Taylor Webster of RWU edged
Peter LeFrancois 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) at No. 3, while
Adam Zimmerman battled Kyle Bull in a tough No. 5 match, but lost 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.
Otero also played a tough No. 1 doubles match with partner and classmate
Alexander Sause, but they were defeated 9-8 (7-1) by Taylor Webster and Ryan Swanson.
Western New England hits the court again in two days on Wednesday in Beverly against Endicott College, starting at 3:30 p.m.
