MILTON, Mass.--Freshman
Lauren Sell won both her No. 1 doubles and singles matches to help set the tone for a Western New England 9-0 victory over host Curry in Commonwealth Coast Conference women's tennis action at the Big Nine Courts on Saturday. The winning Golden Bears snapped a two-match losing streak to improve to 5-3 overall and evened their conference record at 2-2. The Colonels remain winless at 0-7 on the season, including 0-4 in CCC play.
Sell, along with her No. 1 doubles partner sophomore
Joeanna Glantz, clinched the match for the Golden Bears by shutting out Kimberly Love and Kayla Prete, 8-0. Sell also defeated Love at the top position in singles, 6-2, 6-0.
Glantz joined Sell as a double winner with a No. 2 singles win over Prete, 6-1, 6-3. Western New England also got two points from junior co-captain
Kelly Byrnes and freshman
Christina D'Agostino. They combined for an 8-3 No. 2 doubles triumph while Byrnes prevailed at No. 4 singles, 6-2 and 6-1, and D'Agostino won at No. 3, 6-1 and 6-4.
Sophomore
Corey St. Louis downed Alexandra Moschetto in a No. 5 singles match, 6-3 and 6-1, and senior co-captain
Michele Magliulo whipped Alison Rhodes at No. 6, 6-2 and 6-0.
The freshman tandem of
Jessica Breitweg and
Alice Mathews picked up WNE's other doubles point over Alison Rhodes/Jennifer Dube, 8-2, at No. 3.
Roger Williams University will be the next opponent for WNE at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in a CCC match on the latter's home site, the Volvo Outdoor Courts.
