CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (October 17, 2015) - The Western New England University volleyball team split its final two matches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Quad Tournament earlier today, falling to host MIT 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-18) in the morning before rebounding with a 3-1 (29-27, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19) victory over St. Lawrence University in the afternoon contest.

Senior middle hitter Olivia Lathrop (Farmington, Conn.) led the Golden Bear offense against MIT, hitting .500 with nine kills and just one error in 16 attempts, while sophomore Carly Skibinski (Milford, N.J.) added seven kills (.385).

Sophomore outside hitter Alona Kornberg (Fair Lawn, N.J.), who was named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of play today, tallied a team-high seven digs, and junior setter Jessica Sincero (Verplanck, N.Y.) handed out 13 assists.

MIT, which is ranked No. 23 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) Division III Poll, finished 3-0 over the weekend, extending its winning streak to 18 matches in the process. The Engineers were led by sophomore Lisette Tellez (Miami, Fla.) who turned in a .615 hitting percentage with nine kills and six digs on the defensive end.

The trio of Skibinski, Lathrop and Kornberg helped Western New England snap its four-match skid against St. Lawrence, as the Golden Bears capped their trip to Cambridge on a high note.

Skibinski and Lathrop finished with 14 and 13 kills, respectively, while posting hitting percentages of .360 and .370. Kornberg chipped in with eight kills and nine digs to go with a pair of service aces, and Sincero facilitated the offense with 26 assists.

Junior setter Jenna Leuck (Dumont, N.J.) also played a key role in the four-set triumph, tallying 15 assists, seven digs, and five service aces.

Western New England (9-9, 2-2 CCC) returns to the Alumni Healthful Living Center on Tuesday night to host Keene State College in a non-conference tilt at 7 p.m.
