Western New England Drops 6-1 Decision to Curry in ECAC Northeast Action

Box Score
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (November 19, 2015) - The Western New England University ice hockey team fell behind 3-0 in the first period on its way to an eventual 6-1 setback to Curry College this evening in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast action at Smead Arena.

Sophomore forward Shane Tracy (Bow, N.H.) got Curry off to a fast start just under two minutes into the contest, beating Western New England senior goaltender Austin Keiser (Danwoody, Ga.) top shelf on his blocker side with a shot from the slot.

The Colonels then doubled their advantage at the 12:32 mark, when freshman forward Lionel Mauron (Lausanne, Switzerland) won a faceoff directly back to sophomore Robert Cammalleri (Richmond Hill, Ont.), who one-timed a low shot into the right side of the net. One minute and 23 seconds later, junior Dan McGinnis (Hanover, Mass.) added another goal for the visitors as Curry carried a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

Freshman netminder Cole Semchak (Bakersfield, Calif.) took over the goaltending duties for the Golden Bears in the second period and made seven saves, but the Colonels were able get two shots past him to extend their advantage to 5-0.

Curry would add one more goal 14:17 into the third period before Western New England broke through 55 seconds later on freshman CJ Totillo's (Brooklyn, N.Y.) first career marker. Totillo finished with a team-high four shots on goal for the Golden Bears.

Freshman goaltender Spencer Cookson (Sheffield, Mass.) turned back 18 shots for Curry, but was denied his first career shutout. Semchak also finished with 18 stops for Western New England in 40 minutes between the pipes, while Keiser recorded five.

Both teams will be back in action with conference contests on Saturday, as the Golden Bears head to Salve Regina University and the Colonels return home to host Nichols College.
