PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (November 21, 2015) - The Salve Regina University ice hockey team scored a goal in each period en route to a 3-1 victory over Western New England University this afternoon in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast action at the Portsmouth Abbey Ice Rink.
Salve Regina freshman
Shaun Patry (Penfield, N.Y.) opened the scoring just 37 seconds into the contest, before Western New England freshman
Evan Antisdale (Fairfield, Conn.) netted the equalizer with a backhand flip over Seahwawks' freshman netminder
Blake Wojtala's (Trenton, Mich.) shoulder at the 13:54 mark of the first period. Antisdale's unassisted goal was the first of his collegiate career.
The score would remain tied for the rest of the first and through nearly 15 minutes of the second period, until Patry and senior defenseman
Lucas Sousa (Billerica, Mass.) set up sophomore
Evan Schmidbauer (San Diego, Calif.) for the goal that would stand as the game-winner at the 14:44 mark. Sophomore
Joseph Yeadon (Burlington, Mass.) added an insurance goal for the Seahawks midway through the third and Wojtala kept the Golden Bears off the scoreboard the rest of the way as Salve Regina held on for the win.
Wojtala finished with 32 saves, while Western New England senior goaltender
Austin Keiser (Danwoody, Ga.) registered a season-high 41 stops on the other end. Neither team was able to convert on their power play opportunities, as both went 0-for-5 with a man advantage.
