#7 Western New England Ends Season with CCC Quarterfinal Loss at #2 Endicott, 76-52

Box Score BEVERLY, Mass.--Sophomore and all-conference guard Mike Gelineau led four Golden Bears in double figures with 12 points, but No. 7-seeded Western New England ran into a hot-shooting Endicott squad in the second half as the host Gulls pulled away for a 76-52 win in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 Commonwealth Coast Conference Men's Basketball Championship Tournament on Tuesday here at the MacDonald Gymnasium. The Golden Bears end their season at 8-18 while the second-seeded Gulls improve to 21-5 and advance to Thursday's conference semifinals at home versus third-seeded Eastern Nazarene.

Graduate captain Nick DeFeo (4 rebounds, 2 steals), senior co-captain Musa Elsir and junior Zack Askew (4 assists) all scored 10 points for the Golden Bears, who shot 29.9 percent from the field on the night. Gelineau recorded three steals.

Sophomore Max Motroni led Endicott with 22 points on 6-of-9 field goal shooting and four assists, followed by classmate Kamahl Walker with 14 on 5-for-9 from the floor and four assists and John Henault with 13 points. Henault's first two points of the game, a pair of free throw makes at the 17:10 mark of the first half, moved him into second place on Endicott's all-time scoring list with 1,452 points for his four-year collegiate career.

The Golden Bears played a strong first half by limiting the Gulls to just 29 percent shooting overall while making 13-of-29 shots for a .448 field goal percentage, forging a 32-all halftime score. In fact, WNE jumped out to leads of 9-2 and 17-7 after a layup by junior Luis Agrait and an Elsir tip-in, respectively.

Endicott responded with a 22-2 run to reclaim a 29-19 advantage before WNE clawed back in the final 6:44--highlighted by treys from Elsir and Daniel Silva--to draw even headed into the intermission.

In the second half, however, WNE leaned on three-point shooting from other sources besides their long-range marksmen to attempt to maintain pace with the Gulls. The Golden Bears made just 2-of-17 three-point attempts in the second period and shot just 18 percent overall.

Endicott senior forward Tell White ended up with a game-high seven rebounds, matching Elsir for the Golden Bears. Sophomore forward Daquan Sampson was a major factor in Endicott's second-half dominance as the lanky big man turned in a stat line of nine points and five rebounds.

Endicott shot 43 percent from the field for the game, 46 percent (11-of-24) from three-point range, and 81 percent (17-of-21) at the line compared to a 30%/19%/78% split from WNE.
