DeLisi, Zambrano Lift Western New England to CCC Split with Endicott on the Road

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BEVERLY, Mass.--Visiting Western New England defeated Endicott 6-1 in the nightcap to salvage a split of a Commonwealth Coast Conference softball doubleheader at North Field on Saturday. The Gulls claimed the first game, 9-1 in six innings.

In the second contest, sophomore Corianna DeLisi paced the Golden Bears offense by going 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in and a run scored. Senior Samantha Mulhern and junior Alexis Bukowski each contributed two hits and a RBI. Every Golden Bear starter had at least one hit as the team rapped 15.

Western New England (13-6 overall, 5-1 CCC) scored two runs in each of the first three innings.

Senior pitcher Lauren Zambrano helped her own cause with a two-run single to left field to stake WNE to a 2-0 lead after an inning of play. Zambrano improved to 7-1 with the complete-game win, scattering five hits and striking out 10 Gulls to take the top spot in the CCC with 80 strikeouts.

Western New England got some insurance runs with two apiece in the second and third frames. DeLisi capped the Golden Bears' scoring with a two-run single up the middle in the third.

In the opener, the Golden Bears were led by sophomore Gabby Lavinio who went 1-for-3 with a home run to right field in the top of the fourth inning. Juniors Heather Fecteau, McKenzie Pezze and DeLisi also had a hit each.

The Gulls (9-9, 6-1) struck quickly with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Stephanie Cameron had a one-out single and then stole second base. Julia McNeill reached on a fielder's choice to advance Cameron to third. After McNeill stole second, Sam Dibella reached on a fielder's choice to knock in Cameron and McNeill came around to score on a throwing error by the third baseman.

Endicott added five insurance runs in the third. Cameron led the offense by going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a run batted in.

Western New England will play University of New England Sunday (Noon) in a CCC doubleheader at Golden Bear Softball Park.
