SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Western New England University men's tennis team held Senior Day on Wednesday in its regular season finale against Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Nichols College. The Bison, however, swept the singles matches to defeat the Golden Bears 8-1. Western New England now stands at 7-7 overall and 3-5 in the CCC, while Nichols improves to 15-5 on the season and 7-1 in the conference.
The Golden Bears took their only point of the day at No. 3 doubles. Seniors
Greg Tischofer, a team tri-captain, and
Chris Spear defeated sophomore Joan Castillo and senior Cam Lewis, 8-5, to cut the Bison's lead to 2-1.
Spear gave Joan Castillo a battle at No. 3 singles. After losing the first set 6-1, Spear rebounded to take the second 7-5. But Castillo was able to prevail in the super tiebreaker in the third and their match, 10-4.
Before the contest, the Golden Bears honored their six seniors including tri-captain
