Lauren Sell earned two points with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles while freshman
Petra Martinelli didn't give up a game in her collegiate debut to spark the Western New England University women's tennis team to a season-opening 8-0 non-conference victory at the Volvo Outdoor Courts on Friday.
Sell teamed with No. 1 doubles partner and classmate
Joeanna Glantz to down Annette Kaminski/Katherina VonWoerkom, 8-3, to stake Western New England to a lead it would never give up. Sell also downed Kaminski in the top singles matchup, 6-2, 6-1.
Martinelli did not surrender a game in a 6-0, 6-0 No. 6 singles win over Ashley Fogg.
Western New England will have a short turnaround to enjoy this win because defending Commonwealth Coast Conference champion and 20-15 preseason favorite Endicott College comes to town on Saturday, starting at noon.
