MILTON, Mass.  (February 6, 2016) -
The Western New England University ice hockey team fell to Curry College, 2-1, this evening in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast play at the Max Ulin Memorial Rink.

Freshman goaltender Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) made a strong bid to earn his second consecutive victory, stopping 48 of the 50 shots that he faced. His counterpart, junior Brett Sinclair (St. Catharines, Ontario) made 39 saves on 40 Western New England shots. Gollmer falls to 1-2-1 while Sinclair improves to 8-9-1 on the season.

The conference matchup remained scoreless until the third period, with the Colonels getting on the board first 7:48 into the final frame. Sophomore Shane Tracey (Bow, N.H.) was able to beat Gollmer for his tenth on the season. He was assisted by freshman Lionel Mauron (Lausanne, Switzerland) and freshman Zachery White (Milford, Conn.). That marks Mauron's fifth helper on the season and White's third.

The Colonels struck again nearly seven minutes later to double their advantage. The goal was scored by junior Mike Apreda (Newmarket, Ontario) which is good for his first of the season. He was assisted by freshman Mack Heisinger (Winnipeg, Manitoba) tying him for the Colonels team lead in assists with 13.

The Golden Bears were able to narrow their defict to 2-1 just 43 seconds later, however. Freshman David Kleyman (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched his fourth of the season, placing him in a tie for most goals out of all the freshmen on the team. The goal was assisted by senior Chris Lembo (Southington, Conn.) and freshman Brian Hurley (Baldwin, N.Y.). The assist extends Lembo's team-leading total to 11, while Hurley's helper marks his seventh on the season.

With the loss, the Golden Bears drop to 2-16-3 overall and 1-10-1 in ECAC NE play. The Colonels improve to 9-11-2 overall and 5-7-1 in conference action.

The Golden Bears are next in action on Thursday, February 11th, when they host Salve Regina at Smead Arena in Springfield. Curry returns to action Wednesday against Nichols.
