Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
CLERMONT, Fla. (March 14, 2016) - The Western New England University softball team continued its ten-game spring break trip in Florida today with setbacks to Babson College and William Paterson University at Hancock Park.

The Golden Bears were defeated by the Beavers, 8-4, in the opener, before falling victim to a strong pitching performance in game two as the Pioneers posted a 6-0 victory.

Babson 8, Western New England 4
Western New England claimed an early 1-0 lead in the opener, but Babson answered with eight straight runs, four of which came in the fifth inning. Senior Heather Fecteau (Biddeford, Maine) paced the Golden Bears offensively, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run, while classmate Alexis Bukowski (Wallingford, Conn.) went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk.

Freshman Annie Quine (Santa Monica, Calif.) powered the Babson offense with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate, driving in a game-high four runs with a home run and a double. Sophomore Samantha Smith (Hillsborough, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with a home run, while freshman Josephine Mares (Houston, Tex.) added a triple and one RBI.

Junior Corianna DeLisi (Tuxedo, N.Y.) led off the first inning with a double and eventually came around to score on a Babson throwing error, but the Golden Bears were held scoreless over the next four frames by Beavers' senior pitcher Madison Dinaso (Ardsley, N.Y.).

Babson pulled ahead in the third on Quine's three run homer, before tacking on four more runs in the fifth as Mares recorded an RBI triple, and Quine, junior Leslie Moore (Atkinson, N.H.) and Dinaso also drove in runs. Smith added a solo homer the following inning, wrapping up the scoring for the Beavers.

The Golden Bears got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth on Bukowski's two-run shot, and cut their deficit to four in the seventh on junior Gabby Lavinio's (Dalton, Mass.) solo homer, but Babson held on for the win.

William Paterson 6, Western New England 0
Junior Gabrielle Castelli (Cedar Grove, N.J.) limited the Golden Bears to five hits while striking out eight batters in a complete game effort as Western New England dropped its second contest of the day. Lavinio, DeLisi, sophomores Jenn Luba (Plymouth, Conn.) and Sarah Broderick (Woodbury, Conn.), and senior McKenzie Pezze (Albany, N.Y.) all recorded hits, but the Golden Bears were unable to advance a runner past second base in the setback.

William Paterson opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the second, highlighted by senior Kelsey Wimmershoff's (Park Ridge, N.J.) two-run homer. The Pioneers added a run in the third, before plating two more in the fourth on a two-run single by junior Rachel Wasilak (Livingston, N.J.).

Western New England (2-4) will be off tomorrow before returning to action on Wednesday with contests against RPI and Frostburg State at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively, at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
