CASSELBERRY, Fla. (March 16, 2016) - Sophomore Kevin Yawgel's 3-6, 6-1 (10-4) win at No. 6 singles over Colin Stiefer clinched a 5-4 victory for Western New England University over St. Ambrose University this afternoon at Red Bug Lake Park in Casselberry, Fla.

Yawgel's third set tiebreak win capped a closely contested match, as Western New England won four of six singles contests after dropping two of three doubles matches.

The Golden Bears' No. 1 doubles duo of senior Andres Otero (Caracas, Venezuela) and freshman Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) fell just short against Bart Van Rooijen/Dave Smith, losing 9-8 (8-6), while St. Ambrose's No. 2 squad of Mitchell Schumacher/Kevin Beckett defeated seniors Alexander Sause (Cusago, Italy) and Adam Zimmerman (South Windsor, Conn.), 8-5.

Senior Chris Spear (Windsor, Conn.) teamed up with sophomore Nick Raschilla (East Longmeadow, Mass.) to produce Western New England's lone doubles win, as they defeated Colin Stiefer/Dylan Fairbairn, 8-1.

Van Rooijen was also victorious at No. 1 singles for the Fighting Bees, coming back to edge Otero 3-6, 6-1 (10-6), while Sause defeated Schumacher 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2. Dave Smith topped Spear, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, but the Golden Bears claimed wins at both No. 4 and No. 5, setting the stage for Yawgel's clutch victory at No. 6.

Kohut recorded a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Jake Anderson at No. 4, and freshman Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Tony Houston at No. 5.

Western New England (3-1) wraps its four-match spring break trip tomorrow against Onondaga Community College at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
