SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 28, 2016) - Backed by a sweep in doubles play, the Roger Williams University men's tennis team posted a 7-2 victory over Western New England University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action this afternoon on senior day at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.

With the win, Roger Williams (12-3, 6-1 CCC) clinches the top seed and a first round bye in the upcoming CCC Tournament. Western New England (8-6, 3-5 CCC) enters the postseason as the sixth seed and will be on the road this Saturday at Endicott.

Prior to the start of today's match, Western New England honored its three seniors, including co-captains
Andres Otero (Caracas, Venezuela) and
Alexander Sause (Cusago, Italy), and
Chris Spear (Windsor, Conn.).

Spear accounted for one of Western New England's two points this afternoon with a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Grant Rosenberg at No. 3 singles.

Freshman
Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) was also victorious at No. 4 singles, defeating Jonah Schwartz, 6-4, 6-1.

Erik Laboissonniere and Fred Clifford led the way for the Hawks, earning two points each with their wins in both singles and doubles play. Laboissonniere topped Otero, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, after teaming up with Schwartz for an 8-2 win over Otero/Kohut at No. 1 doubles.

The Clifford/Rosenberg duo defeated Spear/Sause, 8-5 at No. 2 doubles, and Clifford followed that up with a 6-3, 2-6 (10-7) win over Sause at No. 2 singles.
