Golden Bears Top Salve Regina, 7-2

Western New England improves to 4-1 this fall

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 20, 2016) – The Western New England University women's tennis team posted a 7-2 victory over Salve Regina University this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.

Top Performers
• Senior captain Joeanna Glantz (Agawam, Mass.) and junior Christina D'Agostino (Bohemia, N.Y.) led the way for the Golden Bears, teaming up for an 8-4 win over Priscilla Gaspard and Emma Gruber at No. 1 doubles. Glantz and D'Agostino went on to pick up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, as Western New England won for the fourth time in five matches this fall.

• Junior Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.) earned a hard-fought 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 victory over Gruber at No. 1 singles after producing an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles along with freshman Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.).

Match Review
• Western New England led 2-1 after doubles play as the D'Agostino/Glantz and Sell/Schrader duos were both victorious. Salve Regina earned a point from Taylor Amendola and Anna Godshalk, who defeated juniors Jessica Breitweg (Bohemia, N.Y.) and Kim Phu (Wolfeboro, N.H.) by a 9-7 score at No. 3.
• In addition to Glantz, D'Agostino and Sell, Schrader and senior captain Corey St. Louis (Groton, Conn.) also posted wins in singles action. Schrader rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Amendola at No. 5, and St. Louis earned a 6-0, 6-1 result against Godshalk at No. 6.

Western New England (4-1, 4-1 CCC) will be back in action on Saturday at noon with another home match against Gordon, while Salve Regina (1-5, 1-3 CCC) returns home to host Nichols tomorrow.
