Golden Bears Fall to Salve Regina, 6-1

Green tallies second career goal in third period

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (January 18, 2017) – Freshman forward Andrew Green (Plainview, N.Y.) scored his second goal of the season, but the Western New England University ice hockey team fell to Salve Regina University 6-1 this evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Portsmouth Abbey Ice Rink.

Top Performers
• Green scored on his only shot and won 2-of-3 faceoffs.
• Freshman defenseman Eric Szeker (East Falmouth, Mass.) and sophomore forward CJ Totillo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) were both credited with assists on Green's goal.

• Junior forward Evan Schmidbauer (San Diego, Calif.) led Salve Regina with one goal and two assists, while sophomore Shaun Patry (Penfield, N.Y.) and senior Evan Schultz (Durham, N.H.) added two goals each.  

Game Review
• Schultz got the Seahawks on the board 1:08 into the contest, before sophomore Cameron Russo (Billerica, Mass.) doubled Salve Regina's lead 1:31 later and Patry made it 3-0 with 5:15 remaining in the opening period.
• Despite Western New England's 15-14 shot advantage in the second period, Salve Regina scored the lone goal of the frame as Patry found the back of the net for the second time just 43 seconds in with the help of Schmidbauer.
• A shorthanded goal for Schmidbauer extended the home team's lead to 5-0 early in the third period, but Green ended Salve Regina senior goaltender Alexander Devine's (Hampton, N.H.) shutout bid at the 12:02 mark. Schultz capped the scoring with his second of the night 3:24 later to extend the final margin to 6-1.

Notes
• Salve Regina outshot Western New England 46-25 and held a 36-29 advantage in the faceoff circle.
• Neither team was able to convert on their power play opportunities, as the Golden Bears went 0-for-2 and the Seahawks went 0-for-3.
• Western New England sophomore goaltender Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.) finished with 40 saves, his fourth 40+ save performance this season. Devine recorded 24 saves for Salve Regina.
