Nichols Tops Western New England, 6-3

Sophomore Morgan Schrader posts 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 win at No. 2 singles

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 16, 2017) – The Western New England University women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Nichols College this afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.  

Top Performers
• Sophomore Morgan Schrader (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) led the way for the Golden Bears, recording a hard earned 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 win at No. 2 singles.
• Junior Petra Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.) was victorious at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Tiffany Romano.

• Amarie Settiwongse fueled the Bison with wins at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Match Review
• Nichols jumped out to a 3-1 lead with wins at all three doubles flights.
• Schrader, Martinelli, and freshman Jessica Cote (Groton, Conn.) all earned victories in singles play, but the Bison rode their early advantage to a 6-3 triumph.

Up Next
Western New England (1-3, 1-2 CCC) travels to Wentworth on Tuesday, while Nichols (5-1, 3-0 CCC) returns home to host Salve Regina.
