Western New England Falls to Curry on Senior Night, 5-1

Hines scores fifth goal of the season for Golden Bears

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 9, 2019) – The Western New England University ice hockey team fell to Curry College, 5-1, on Saturday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Olympia Ice Center.

Prior to the start of the game, Western New England honored its 12 seniors – Steve Beck (Milton, N.Y.), Connor Eckenrod (Ebensburg, Pa.), Kevin Gollmer (Flourtown, Pa.), Connor Graham (Norfolk, Mass.), Tyler Hines (North Haven, Conn.), David Kleyman (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Stefan Koproske (Simsbury, Conn.), Chris Maione (Stouffville, Ont.), Matt O'Dea (Orland Park, Ill.), Eddie Rogers (St. Louis, Mo.), Carlos Ross (Brockport, N.Y.), and CJ Totillo (Brooklyn, N.Y.).

Top Performers
Hines scored Western New England's lone goal with assists from Ross and Rogers, while Gollmer finished with 47 saves in net.

Curry was led by senior forward Zach White (Milford, Conn.), who posted a three-point effort with two goals and one assist.

Freshman defenseman Mike Pellegrini (Markham, Ont.) factored into two goals for the Colonels as he scored and handed out an assist.

Game Review
Western New England capitalized on an early power play opportunity to take a 1-0 lead as Hines tipped home a Rogers blast from the point to get the Golden Bears on the board 3:36 into the contest.

Western New England led 1-0 at the first intermission, but the Colonels took control of the contest in the second period, as they buried a pair of goals and outshot the Golden Bears 27-2. Pellegrini tied the game at the 5:34 mark and sophomore Kasper Kjellkvist (Vaxjo, Sweden) put the visitors up for good just under two minutes later.

Curry continued to add to its lead in the third period with two goals from White and another from freshman Tarek Paranica (Grand Forks, N.D.) to extend the final margin to 5-1.

• Curry outshot Western New England 52-20.
• The Golden Bears went 1-for-5 on the power play, while Curry was 0-for-4 with a man advantage.

Western New England (7-17, 2-14 CCC) wraps up its 2018-19 campaign at home next Saturday night against Endicott, while Curry (15-6-3, 10-4-2 CCC) travels to Becker.
