Golden Bears Earn 6-3 Senior Day Victory Over Endicott

WNE extends winning streak to season-high four matches

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 13, 2019) – The Western New England University men's tennis team earned a 6-3 victory over Endicott College on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.

Before the start of the match, Western New England honored seniors Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) and Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) for their contributions to the program over the past four years.

Endicott took a 1-0 lead as Justin Toler and Cooper Walters defeated juniors Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Hippolyte Bonnet (Lille, France) 8-5 at No. 2 doubles.

The Gulls then went up 2-0 as Christos Papadopoulos and Charles Book won by the same score over Tran and sophomore Max Gordon (Middleton, Mass.) at No. 3, before the Golden Bears got on the board when Kohut and junior David Kalmer posted an 8-5 triumph over Keaton McCleary and Daniel Rinkert at No. 1.

Western New England tied the match at 2-2 with Bonnet's 6-1, 6-0 win over Walters at No. 2 singles, and the Golden Bears then surged ahead as Kohut topped McCleary 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.

The home team continued to roll, as Gordon registered a 6-3, 6-2 result over Collin Dinardo at No. 6, before Kalmer took down Book by a 7-5, 6-1 score at No. 1 to make it 5-2 in favor of Western New England.

The Golden Bears clinched the win via Surawksi's 6-2, 6-3 victory over Papadopoulos at No. 4, while the Gulls took the No. 5 singles matchup as Toler rallied to edge junior Griffin Arnold (Meriden, Conn.) 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

Up Next
Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday, as Western New England (8-3, 4-1 CCC) travels to Wentworth and Endicott (7-9, 3-2 CCC) returns home to take on Gordon.
