Men's Ice Hockey Ties Framingham State 2-2

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 4, 2020) – The Western New England University men's ice hockey team tied Framingham State 2-2 on Saturday evening at the Olympia Ice Center.

Top Performers
Freshman defenseman Tyler Pohlig (Broomall, Pa.) scored both of the goals for the Golden Bears..

Senior Andrew Green (Plainview, N.Y.), junior Anthony Frati (Churchville, N.Y.), and freshman Jordan Giacomin (Richmond Hill, Ont.) each provided an assist.

Framingham State received goals from sophomores Zach Bettmeng (Sioux Falls, S.D.) and Jacob Garman (Anchorage, Alaska).

Game Review
The Golden Bears got on the board first when Pohlig found the back of the net on a power play goal. Green found Pohlig on the right side of the ice, and Pohlig fired it past Rams goaltender Blake Carlson (Clemont, Fla.) for his first career goal.

Western New England extended their lead shortly into the second period. On a power play, Pohlig received the puck and had a wide-open net to score his second of the night. Frati and Jordan Giacomin provided the assists.

Framingham State cut the lead to 2-1 with under a minute left in the second period. Bettmeng received a pass from freshman Kolton Smith (Tomah, Wis.) and shot it past Golden Bear goaltender Colten Lancaster (Kelowna, B.C.).

With just under nine minutes left in regulation, the Rams tied the game at 2-2 when Garman found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Taylor Lewandowski (Newbury, Ohio) to force overtime.

Notes
• Western New England held a 40-22 shooting advantage.
• Pohlig's two goals were the first two goals of his career.

Western New England (3-7-2) will go on the road at Albertus Magnus on Tuesday evening. Framingham State (1-8-1) will play Becker at home on Tuesday evening.
