Box Score BIDDEFORD, MAINE (December 3, 2021) – The Western New England men's ice hockey team met the Nor'easters of the University of New England, the number 12 ranked team in Division III men's ice hockey and were bested after allowing three third period goals in a 5-3 loss. Seven different players for the Golden Bears recorded one point in the loss.

How it Happened:
The Golden Bears and Nor'easters skated to a 0-0 draw at the end of the first period in a fast moving 20 minutes. Just a singular penalty was recorded in the first, while Anthony Aureliano, who is making his third consecutive start for the Golden Bears made 16 saves for WNE to keep the high-powered offense of UNE off the board. Western New England mustered five first period shots, all denied by James Corcoran.
UNE would get on the board first in the opening two minutes of the second period when Jared Christy would register an unassisted tally to give the Nor'easters the 1-0 lead. Western New England would respond just over three minutes later with a tally of their own when Sam Mitchell found twine for the fifth time on the season. Josh Bliss and James Belleavoine would record helpers on the goal from Mitchell to even the score at one.
The offense from UNE would strike again with 12 minutes to play in the second period to take their second lead of the game when Tyler Seltenreich found himself potting the second Nor'easters goal of the contest. Seltenreich would by assisted by Jamey Zanca and Collin Heinold to give UNE the 2-1 lead. Western New England would not go away quietly as the Golden Bears would even the sore with under five minutes to play in the second period. Finn Bambery would find Jordie Morgan who would then one touch a pass to Lliam Christiano, who finished his team leading fifth goal of the season to even the score at two. The Golden Bears and Nor'easters would be deadlocked at two a piece heading into the final frame. Aureliano would come away with 12 saves in the second period.
UNE would collect the next two goals of the games, coming four minutes apart to put the Golden Bears on their heels down the stretch. Seltenreich would score his second goal of the game at the 9:44 mark in the third period, while Daniel Winslow would score his first goal of the game with seven minutes remaining in the third period to give the Nor'easters the 4-2 lead. As they did all night, the Golden Bears would fight and respond with an unassisted tally from Kyle Knightwho cut the Nor'easters lead in half to make the game 3-2. Just 33 seconds after the goal from Knight the Nor'easters would score their fifth and final goal of the night as the Golden Bears would drop the CCC match to the 12th ranked Nor'easters 5-3.
Inside the Crease:
- The Golden Bears leading goal scorers, Lliam Christiano and Sam Mitchell, both registered their fifth goals of the season, respectively. Sophomore Josh Bliss picked up his first helper of the season, picking up his first career collegiate point.
- UNE was led by Tyler Seltenreich, who scored two goals and was a +2 on the ice. Seltenreich has tallied three goals and one assist this season for UNE.
- GK Anthony Aureliano made 37 saves in the loss for the Golden Bears, surrendering four goals on the night. Aureliano has made 123 saves in three appearances this season, dotting a .925 save percentage.
- Western New England was outshot 42-18 in the contest.
