Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (December 7, 2021) – The Western New England women's basketball team hosted their first conference game of the season to close out the fall semester conference play against Gordon where the Golden Bears dropped 57-43 to the Fighting Scots.

How It Happened:
The Golden Bears opened the game with a 7-0 run before the Fighting Scots were able to get on the board with a three at the 5:14 mark. Gordon got back within two before Western New England tallied five straight points by Emma Kahn to keep the Golden Bears ahead 12-5 with 3:32 left in the first quarter. Gordon continued to battle and closed out the first quarter with a 6-0 run to get within one (12-11) heading into the second.
A 9-0 run for the Fighting Scots started the second quarter strong to take a 20-12 lead just over the halfway point. Abby Garaban stopped the run by the Fighting Scots with a pair of free throws only for Gordon to make their next two foul shots as well. The two teams began trading baskets before the Golden Bears kick started their offense to end the half with an 8-0 stretch capped by three free throws by Alexia Leon to tie the game 26-26 heading into halftime.
Gordon started the second half with their ow 8-0 run to take a 34-26 lead at the 6:12 mark to force the Golden Bears into their first timeout of the half. After one free throw by Paige Brinkman, the Fighting Scots were right back attacking the offensive end to extend their lead to 41-27 with just 2:16 left in the third quarter. Lindsey Carey stopped the Fighting Scots' run while Shaina Cooney ended the quarter with a free throw.
Four unanswered points for Gordon started the fourth quarter before the trading of baskets began again. The two teams went back-and-forth the entire fourth with the Golden Bears unable to lessen the Fighting Scots' lead. Leon ended the game with a pair of free throws and the Golden Bears dropped 57-43 to Gordon.
Inside the Numbers:
- As a team, the Golden Bears went 13-for-55 from the floor to shoot 23.6 percent while going 75.0 percent from the foul line. The team earned 36 rebounds, five assists, six steals and three blocks in the game.
- Garaban led the team with 12 points and eight rebounds while adding two steals on the defensive end.
