Late Second Half Run Pushes Gordon Past Men's Basketball

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 12, 2021) – The Western New England University men's basketball team suffered a 78-72 defeat to Gordon on Friday evening at the Bennett Center in Wenham, Mass.

Top Performers
Senior Alex Sikorski led the Golden Bears in scoring with 19 points, while junior Kenny Flynn scored 16 points. First-year Gavin Greene scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds off the bench.

Sophomore Garrett Sattazahn led the Fighting Scots with 28 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists, while senior Parker Omslaer scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Game Review
Gordon jumped out to an early 10-4 within the first few minutes. The Golden Bears went on a 7-0 run to take an 11-10 lead with 15:15 remaining in the half. A dunk from Sikorski midway through the half gave Western New England a 29-17 lead.

The Fighting Scots chipped away at the lead, cutting the deficit down to five going into halftime. A three pointer early in the second half from sophomore Zachary Bennett gave Gordon a 51-49 lead. An and-one from Omslaer with 7:14 remaining pushed the lead to eight, 65-57. The Golden Bears regained the lead, but crucial free throws down the stretch from Gordon gave them the victory.
