Women's Basketball Falls in Overtime to Gordon

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (February 26, 2021) – The Western New England University women's basketball team fell in overtime, 71-67, to Gordon on Saturday afternoon at the Bennett Center in Wenham, Mass.

Top Performers
Senior Lauren Chadwick scored 15 points for the Golden Bears, while junior Julia Quinn scored 15 points and had five rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

Senior Abby Vampatella led the Fighting Scots with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman Caroline Sikkink scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds.

Game Review
The Golden Bears jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, but the Fighting Scots came back over the remainder of the first quarter to cut the deficit to two, with the score at 18-16 in favor of Western New England heading into the second quarter. The Golden Bears continued to hold the lead throughout the second quarter, pushing the lead back up seven at one point. 

The back and forth play continued into the third quarter, as Western New England held a three point advantage heading into the fourth. A three pointer from Chadwick gave the Golden Bears a 55-48 lead with 3:26 remaining in the fourth quarter. Gordon again fought back, as senior Megan Hasty tied the game at 58 with a three pointer with just two seconds remaining to force overtime. The Fighting Scots carried that momentum into overtime to grab the win.

Western New England (2-2) is scheduled to play Suffolk on Friday evening at 4:30 pm at the CAHLC.
